John began hosting his Monday night Sports Talk at WWVA in the fall of 1988 until 2006.  Over one thousand shows later, John is still going strong with local, state, and national sports issues.  He hosts the Saturday Morning Sports Forum and Saturday Sports Day from 9 am until noon, and is the play-by-play sportscaster for high school football and basketball.  He is a sports reporter for WTOV-TV during high school football season.

 

John is a graduate of Beallsville, Ohio High School and West Liberty State College.  He served two years in the U. S. Army.   He retired from teaching Computer Science at Wheeling Park High School in years where his students captured 24 state computer championships and posted six top ten national finishes.    He won the Governors Cup in 1988 for the best secondary program.

 

John was named West Virginia Sportscaster of the Year in 1997 and recently was recognized by the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Eastern District as its Media Person of the Year.   He was runnerup for Sportscaster of the Year in 1993 and 2001.  He was been an Associated Press College Football Poll Voter and continues to vote on many awards including the Heisman Trophy,  Bear Bryant Coach of the Year,  and the basketball awards of  the Naismith and Wooden trophies.  John has served on the West Virginia Associated Press High School Basketball polls for fifteen years.

 

John is an official donor to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and has a lifetime membership.  He is a ratings reporter for both the WVSSAC and OHSAA.  His 31 years in the media has allowed him to cover many major events including the baseball All Star games,  High School football championships,  West Virginia and Ohio State athletics, the Preakness Stakes, and the Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies.
